譯者按：《贏家與輸家》是美國的一篇諺語短文，可能是由《芝加哥每日新聞》（Chicago Daily News）記者雪梨·哈里斯（Sydney J. Harris）於1973年所作。短文精選了美國菁英階級教育兒女時常講的十三句諺語，反映了盎撒新教文化中的騎士觀，或者說君子觀。這些道理對於熟識西方文化的人來講或許是老生常談，不過對於如今世俗而逐利的華人來說耳目一新，且有利於重塑德性。歷史學者拉迪亞德·林奇說過，每個文明在原始豐饒的春季，其人生觀都像是克己復禮的斯多葛哲學；而在秋去冬來的覆亡前夜，其人生觀則像是消極享樂的伊比鳩魯哲學。這篇諺語短文體現的正是盎撒騎士觀念中的斯多葛式行為準則。
【Winner vs Losers | 贏家與輸家】
A winner makes commitments; a loser makes promises.

When a winner makes a mistake, he says “I was wrong”; when a loser makes a mistake, he says “It wasn’t my fault”.
